A Study of the Needs for Developing a Community-Based Student Support System to Enhance the Quality of Primary School Students in Northeastern Thailand -

Abstract
The purpose of this research was to investigate the current condition, desirable condition, and priority needs for the development of a community-based student support system aiming at enhancing the quality of primary school students in the Northeastern Thailand. The sample consisted of 387 school administrators and teachers. The sample size was determined by the Krejcie and Morgan table, and stratified random sampling was employed.
The research instrument was a 5-rating scale questionnaire with the desirable condition of content validity index ranged from 0.80 to 1.00, the item discrimination indices ranged from 0.309 to 0.858, and the reliability coefficient of 0.970 and the current condition of content validity index ranged from 0.60 to 1.00, the item discrimination indices ranged from 0.410 to 0.849, and the reliability coefficient of 0.973. The statistics for data analysis included mean, standard deviation, and the modified Priority Needs Index (PNI<sub>modified</sub>).
The research findings revealed that the overall current condition of the student support system was at a moderate level, while the desirable condition was at a high level. The overall priority needs for development (PNI<sub>modified</sub>) was a mean value of 0.35, indicating a significant need for development ordering as (1) systematic management of student information, (2) continuous counseling and guidance services, and (3) screening and monitoring of students at risk.
